Liam's Not So Tiny Guitar FINISHED | RATTLECAN GUITAR RESTORATIONS by James O’Rear
Liam's Not So Tiny Guitar FINISHED | RATTLECAN GUITAR RESTORATIONS by James O’Rear
In this episode we conclude the series of Liam's Not So Tiny Guitar with a short demo and a massive photo dump (with a surprise at the end). It took longer than I planned what with work and school demanding most of my waking hours but Liam's guitar is finally finished and in his hands. Here are the specs for those interested in those sorts of things:
Body- spruce with flame maple cap, Angelus black and blue dyes, SolarEZ grain filler/sealer, TruOil finish
Neck- roasted maple, East Indian rosewood, abalone fret dots, flame maple headstock veneer, 25.5" scale length, bone nut
Pickups- dual humbuckers, 1 volume, 1 tone, 3-way switch
Bridge- hard tail with thru-body ferrules
Tuning machines- 18:1
Word has it once he finished his homework he was practicing today so that's a good start.
Lots of lessons learned especially with the coloring. I can see many experiments with this technique.
Huge thanks to the guys at the day job for helping out with this project: Andrew for his advise and cheerleading and Jorge for running the parts when production demands allowed.

Liam's Not So Tiny Guitar UPDATE! | RATTLECAN GUITAR RESTORATIONS by James O’Rear Just a quick update on Liam's Not So Tiny Guitar for this episode. The roasted maple neck has had a flamed maple veneer applied to it, the rosewood fingerboard has had abalone fret marker dots installed, the spruce/maple body has been shaped with very minor belly and leg reliefs, a 1/8" roundover applied with a ro...

Liam's Tiny Guitar- done | RATTLECAN GUITAR RESTORATIONS by James O’Rear In this episode of Liam's Tiny Guitar we see it in its completed form. To make it a functional guitar we had to move to A standard tuning (like playing an E standard guitar as capo 5). This gave us enough string tension to engage the truss rod and make it hold intonation but not snap strings like trying to tune it up an oc...

Liam’s Tiny Guitar is being problematic. In the instructional live video from the manufacturer it states to tune the strings up an octave. This has allowed me to set the intonation (roughly) and have the strings fee much left floppy but there is one HUGE problem: it keeps breaking the high (bottom) E string. I have tried 8 9 10 and 11 gauge and they have all snapped…Steve times. I have made sur...

In this episode of Liam's Tiny Guitar pt 5 I finally get around to leveling, crowning, dressing, and polishing the frets. Friend, it's 2024, and I just found your video as the first result of a giggle (sic) search, after I disassembled my HF clamp, and came to the same diagnosis as you did. I giggled (sic) it to seek confirmation, and I found it with your video. You and I are birds of a feather (including the 6 strings), and I really enjoyed your video, including the input from your cat, and your reaction to same (even though, I'm a dog guy...). Hope you are well.

    I have the same model Ovation as this one, but in a natural finish. It currently needs a few minor repairs, but thankfully I’ve never had this neck separation problem! (After watching this, I might not even bother if that ever does happen.) One thing about them, I think you really need to use a strap at all times when playing an Ovation, then they’re just fine to play sitting down.

  • @John-William-000
    @John-William-000 4 місяці тому

    The strings you put on the guitar are far to heavy for it. Max thickness gauge strings you should use on an Ovation is 9's that puts between 6 - 8 lb of string tension of the neck. People put heavier strings on them to get more volume out of the shallow bowl guitars. thats not what they are about. It is an electric guitar I hope you never do another Ovation guitar again as well.

  • @John-William-000
    @John-William-000 4 місяці тому

    This is very common if you use heavy gauge strings. Remember an Ovation is predominantly an electric guitar. if you need more noise from it, turn up the volume. This guy know very little about Ovation guitars. this is not going to work out well.

    Well, I am Obviously late to the party, but I would like to add, to make the disks, just use a 1-3/4 hole saw, in the drill press (or by hand). It will produce a 1-5/8 disk, with a, centered, 1/4 hole. If you want to use 5/16 rod (a wise thing to do), all you need do is bore out the hole. By hand, with a pair of pliers works. No need for a center jig. 😁✌🖖

      For a certain part of the program we “lie” to the CNC and tell it the part is thicker than it really is. The program runs those parts as normal (neck pocket, pickup routes) but the tool doesn’t engage the wood. Then we re-zero the tool for the final profile for normal tool engagement.
